Once you get started making phone calls and sending emails, try taking your civic engagement to the next level. Indivisible, a national grassroots movement, focuses on local activism. Indivisible Western Springs, for example, has organized a “Witness Slip Team” to let Illinois legislators know whether you support or oppose a bill. Once you join you receive instructions and periodic emails that require a quick turnaround action — perfect for people who have mobility issues or who simply aren’t interested in attending protest marches but still want to do something.

Swing Left is kicking off its campaign to take back the House in 2026. The organization helps Democrats win elections by mobilizing get-out-the-vote drives in competitive districts. It is hosting small gatherings where friends and neighbors can learn about concrete ways to take action.

This is just a tiny sampling of what’s going on around the country. So head over to the Resources page and find a group, event, or effort that resonates with you. And remember: When you are alone you feel scared and powerless, and that’s exactly the way authoritarians want you to feel. Working with others will help you find community and purpose amid the chaos. So find a group that sounds interesting and see what they’re up to.
