About This Project

I spent most of my career working as a journalist, including a long stint as a news editor and as an executive producer at The Wall Street Journal. During those years I never campaigned for a political candidate, gave money to a campaign, or even wrote a letter to my representatives in Washington. Such actions would have violated the strict code of ethics, values, and practices that have long guided WSJ and other news organizations. But not too long ago, after I left that career and moved on to the next phase of my life, I realized I was no longer restricted from participating in the political process. For me, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Everywhere I go I meet people who are frustrated, afraid, and feeling stuck in the face of the stunning actions of the Trump administration. People literally throw up their hands and ask, “But what can I do?” And I get it. Most people have never attended a political rally or called their elected officials. Or maybe they were inspired to write get-out-the-vote letters during the last Presidential campaign, only to be disappointed in the end. They’ve lost faith in the idea that one person’s actions can have a meaningful impact. Maybe they never believed it to begin with. In a lot of ways, they’ve given up.

This site is for all those people — you know who you are. To encourage you to get into the game. Democracy Dies With Doge was created to make it easy for people to take action: to keep the heat on their legislators, to fight against the destructive actions of the Trump administration and Project 2025, and to demand change. It also aims to encourage people to participate in grassroots organizing efforts that are going on around the country. Every day, as we witness yet another assault on democracy and the rule of law, it feels like a runaway train and it’s easy to believe that we are powerless to stop it. I hope this project will change your mind.

It all starts with just ONE THING. Please share this site with a friend.
